AIG names Sierra Signorelli CEO for Americas and global insurance

AIG has appointed Sierra Signorelli as CEO, Americas and global personal insurance, effective 1 January 2027. The move brings a former AIG underwriting veteran back from Zurich Insurance, where she has sat on the executive committee since 2021.

Signorelli will take charge of AIG's commercial insurance operations across North America and Latin America & the Caribbean. She will also steer the group's worldwide personal insurance arm. The scope of the role places her over two of the most significant blocks in AIG's portfolio, spanning both corporate lines and the individual client business the company runs alongside them.

She will report directly to Eric Andersen, AIG's president and CEO, and will join the company's executive leadership team. That reporting line matters. Andersen only took up the roles of president, CEO and board member on 1 June 2026, succeeding Peter Zaffino, who moved into the position of executive chair on the same date. The Signorelli appointment gives Andersen a senior operator with deep institutional knowledge of AIG installed in a core regional command role within his first year and a half as chief executive.

Signorelli's own framing of the move stressed continuity and timing. "I look forward to working with Eric, AIG's leadership team and our talented colleagues to drive the business forward, while delivering greater value for our clients and partners. That ambition is exactly why this is the right moment to return, and I am excited to be part of the company's next chapter," she said.

The appointment closes a loop in her career. Before joining Zurich, Signorelli spent 17 years with AIG's global specialties division. Her roles there included global chief underwriting officer for specialty lines, a position that put her at the center of some of the most technically demanding underwriting in the commercial market. She left for Zurich and rose quickly. During her time on the Swiss insurer's executive committee, she held a series of senior positions: CEO US, CEO of commercial insurance and group chief underwriting officer.

That résumé maps closely onto the job she is taking. Running commercial insurance across the Americas and global personal insurance at AIG requires exactly the combination of US market leadership, commercial line management and group-level underwriting discipline she exercised at Zurich.

Andersen made the strategic intent explicit in his comments on the appointment. "Sierra's leadership and perspective will be instrumental as we continue to execute our strategy and deliver greater value to our clients and partners. I am delighted to welcome Sierra back to AIG," he said.

The scale Signorelli will inherit is global. AIG delivers insurance products and services to corporate and individual clients across more than 200 countries and territories. The company operates through its own licences and authorisations as well as a network of partners.

The appointment also signals how AIG's leadership bench is being assembled after the June 2026 handover from Zaffino to Andersen. Rather than looking solely outside, the company has drawn on an executive with 17 years of internal history, a full tour of senior roles at a direct global competitor, and a current seat on that competitor's executive committee.

Signorelli has until 1 January 2027 before she assumes the role. Between now and then, AIG's executive leadership team will be preparing for a transition that puts a returning veteran in charge of the Americas commercial franchise and the group's worldwide personal insurance business under a chief executive still in the early stretch of his tenure.
