  • Amazi launched Amazi Connect, a four-part platform for small beauty businesses.
  • More than 3,000 women have graduated from Amazi's skills development programmes.
  • Co-founders Divya Vasant and Sekela Lisa Mgcotyelwa have built Amazi over the past decade.
  • Participants get early access to Shiio, a management platform combining bookings, inventory, commissions and payments.
  • Amazi Connect will host events where owners can access its resources, bookable via the Amazi website.

Amazi, a South African social impact beauty brand, has launched Amazi Connect, a platform that bundles four business solutions — procurement, recruitment, management software and product sales — for small beauty and health service businesses.

The company behind it brings a decade of operating experience and a track record it puts at more than 3,000 women graduated through its skills development programmes. Co-founders Divya Vasant and Sekela Lisa Mgcotyelwa have spent the past ten years building Amazi, and Amazi Connect draws directly on that experience.

"When the everyday barriers to running a business become easier to manage, entrepreneurs have more capacity to focus on growth," Vasant said.

What does Amazi Connect actually offer?

The platform targets four pain points that Amazi says hold back small service-based businesses.

  • Procurement. Sourcing professional products and treatment essentials from multiple suppliers costs entrepreneurs time and money, especially once travel and transport expenses enter the equation. Amazi Connect supplies ready-to-use professional treatment kits designed to simplify purchasing and standardise treatments.
  • Skills development and recruitment. The initiative connects beauty businesses with skilled workers and offers upskilling for existing employees, so owners can build teams capable of serving more customers.
  • Business management. Participants get early access to Shiio, a management platform built for beauty operators. It consolidates bookings, customer information, inventory, staff commissions, payments and business insights into one system.
  • Product sales. Participating businesses gain access to locally made Amazi Beauty products, usable in treatments or sold directly to customers — a potential revenue stream beyond services.

In short: Amazi Connect attacks the back-office burden first, so owners can spend more hours on chairs and fewer on admin.

Why co-opetition is the strategy

The initiative rests on a specific thesis: businesses in the same sector can compete for customers while collaborating on shared operational problems. Procurement costs, staff capacity and disconnected management systems are not unique to beauty salons — Amazi notes these same issues hit other small service-based enterprises too.

For entrepreneurs, the math is straightforward. Less time on administrative tasks and daily operations frees capacity to serve customers and build additional income streams.

What happens next?

Amazi Connect plans to host events where business owners can access the platform's resources and solutions. Entrepreneurs can find details or book a slot at the next event through the Amazi website.

If the 3,000-graduate pipeline from Amazi's training programmes feeds into a connected platform with procurement and software attached, the company is positioning itself as infrastructure for South Africa's small beauty sector — not just a brand inside it.
