Miami fintech startup BOB AI Holdings Corp. has raised $5.5 million in seed funding to scale an AI-powered finance and banking platform built for small businesses. Mischief, the venture firm tied to Plaid founder Zak Perret, led the round. Peter Thiel backed it, with participation from Codie Sanchez, Mark Pincus, Karman Ventures and other investors.
The cash arrives months after BOB's private beta launched in September 2026. The company will use it to expand product capabilities, accelerate customer onboarding and hire more staff in Miami as it pushes past the beta phase.
What does BOB's AI agent actually do?
Founded by CEO Adam Wininger, CTO Jason Brill and Chief Product Officer Kody Greenbaum, BOB is building an AI financial assistant that handles bookkeeping, invoicing, payments and cash flow management. Owners talk to the agent through channels they already use: WhatsApp, text messages, Slack, Microsoft Teams, email and the BOB application.
There's no traditional dashboard to learn. BOB executes routine financial tasks and reports back in conversational language. Its feature set includes:
- Maintaining financial records
- Generating invoices
- Accepting payments
- Managing funds through deposit accounts
- Providing cash flow insights to support business decisions
The company is targeting businesses that rarely have accounting departments — restaurants, roofing contractors and local service providers come first.
Why did investors write the check?
Wininger framed the problem bluntly. "Small business owners have been an afterthought for most of the financial technology built over the last decade," he said. "They are running the business, doing the work, and then staying up late trying to make sense of their books. We built BOB to take that work off their plate entirely."
Mischief's thesis runs deeper than bookkeeping software. The firm sees BOB as infrastructure for a future where AI agents initiate and manage financial transactions on their own.
"We invest in infrastructure that becomes indispensable, and a financial layer for autonomous agents is one of the clearest examples we've seen," said Dustin Moring, general partner at Mischief.
Moring said the bet reflects the firm's expectation that artificial intelligence will move past offering financial recommendations and start executing transactions and running business operations directly. That longer-term strategy — building financial rails for AI agents and other autonomous technologies — sits at the core of BOB's roadmap, alongside the free AI finance agent it's onboarding now.
What happens next?
The $5.5 million funds three things: broader financial automation features, faster onboarding operations and a bigger Miami-based team. One regulatory note matters here — BOB AI Holdings Corp. is a financial technology company, not a bank. It plans to deliver AI-assisted financial management and banking-related services through a single conversational interface.
For small business owners still reconciling books at midnight, the pitch is simple: hand the work to an agent that lives in the chat apps they already check every day.
