DOD Solution raises €1.8 million for combat-tested AI autonomy

DOD Solution, a defence technology startup whose AI autonomy software has been combat-tested in Ukraine, has raised €1.8 million to scale its technology for unmanned systems.

The round, reported by EU-Startups, positions the company to expand a product line that has already faced the most demanding validation environment available: an active war zone. Ukraine has become the world's most intensive testing ground for unmanned aerial, ground and naval systems, and autonomy software that performs there carries credibility few demonstrations can match.

The €1.8 million in fresh capital will fund scaling of the company's AI autonomy stack — the software layer that allows unmanned platforms to operate with reduced dependence on continuous human control and, critically, on jammed or degraded communications links.

That last point matters commercially. Electronic warfare has rendered many remotely piloted systems ineffective on modern battlefields. Autonomy that lets a drone or ground robot complete its mission when the link is cut has moved from a nice-to-have to a core requirement. DOD Solution's battlefield record in Ukraine speaks directly to that demand.

The defence funding environment in Europe has shifted sharply since 2022. Military budgets across the continent are rising, and the EU has moved to channel capital toward dual-use and defence technologies that were once outside the comfort zone of European venture investors. A €1.8 million seed-stage round is modest by general tech standards, but it lands in a sector where capital has historically been scarce — and where governments now actively want startups to succeed.

For unmanned systems specifically, the market opportunity is expanding faster than most analysts predicted. Ukraine is producing millions of drones annually, and NATO members are racing to rebuild stockpiles and field autonomous capabilities of their own. Software that can slot into multiple platforms — rather than being locked to one manufacturer's hardware — addresses the fragmentation that defines this market.

DOD Solution's next test will be converting battlefield credibility into contracts beyond the war zone. European militaries are procurement-heavy and slow-moving, but the urgency created by the war in Ukraine has compressed decision cycles that once took years. A startup with combat-proven software and fresh capital enters those conversations with a credential incumbents cannot easily replicate.

The company will use the €1.8 million to scale its AI autonomy technology for unmanned systems — and to prove that what works under fire in Ukraine can be sold across Europe's rearming defence market.
