Enzo Ventures is close to finalizing a $22 million pre-seed fund aimed at founders in Southern Europe, Dealroom reports.

The figure matters. Pre-seed pools in Southern Europe rarely clear the $20 million mark, and most of the region's venture capital still flows into later-stage deals in larger Northern European hubs. A dedicated $22 million vehicle signals that Enzo Ventures intends to write meaningful numbers of first cheques for startups at their earliest, riskiest phase.

Who is the money for?

The fund targets Southern European founders, Dealroom reports. That geography typically spans markets such as Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece — regions where local pre-seed capital has historically been thin, forcing many founders to look to London, Paris or Berlin for their first institutional money.

Enzo Ventures hasn't disclosed a final close date. "Nears close," in Dealroom's wording, means the firm has largely assembled its investor base but paperwork may still be in motion. First investments from the vehicle could follow shortly after a formal close.

What does a $22M pre-seed fund mean in practice?

At that size, the fund can't concentrate its bets. If Enzo Ventures follows standard pre-seed economics — cheques between roughly $250,000 and $1 million — the vehicle could support somewhere between 20 and 80 companies over its deployment life. That's a portfolio strategy, not a concentrated one.

Pre-seed funds typically take their positions before companies have a product in market or meaningful revenue. For Southern European founders, the arrival of a regional specialist at this stage narrows a gap that has pushed many of the region's best early teams toward foreign investors from day one.

What happens next?

The immediate milestone is a formal close on the $22 million target. After that, founders in the region should watch Enzo Ventures' first announced deals — cheque sizes, sectors and geographies will show how the firm plans to deploy across Southern Europe, according to Dealroom's report.
