GenAI Fund has invested in Bonbon Mobility as part of a $500,000 pre-seed round led by Tasco, the firm announced on September 23.
The deal deepens GenAI Fund's stake in a venture it helped create. Together with Tasco, GenAI Fund sourced the founders, shaped the opportunity, and supported the team as it turned an idea into a live product.
Bonbon emerged from Tasco Foundry Wash3000, a venture-building programme run jointly by Tasco and GenAI Fund. The startup won the programme. Its platform connects car owners with garages and car-care providers in a market still defined by fragmented, independent service points.
The round gives Bonbon capital to build a technology platform, expand its partner network, improve the customer experience, and broaden its service offering.
Bonbon links the digital customer journey with services delivered by physical garages and car-care centres. Drivers get a simpler way to find and access vehicle care. Service providers gain a digital presence, a channel to reach customers, and better tools to manage their operations.
The model builds on an existing network of independent operators. Bonbon is responsible for developing that partner garage network, starting with car washing and vehicle care. Its longer-term ambition is to support more services across the entire vehicle lifecycle.
Founder and CEO Nguyen Chi Dung said the next stage of the company's development will focus on the supply side as well as the consumer app. "The next stage will also focus on digitalisation tools that help garage partners operate more efficiently and reach customers more effectively," Dung said.
As the network grows, consistent service quality and value for both drivers and garage partners will remain central to building a lasting business, according to the announcement.
The investment also serves as evidence for GenAI Fund's venture-building thesis. Rather than backing startups found in the open market, the firm builds companies from business problems identified by corporate partners, then funds the winners.
Laura Nguyen, CEO of GenAI Fund, framed the deal as validation of that approach. "Bonbon is a successful outcome built from a real business challenge identified by Tasco. The core value of the Venture Builder model lies in transforming a corporation's assets and scale into a launchpad that enables startups to move faster, while requiring the team to demonstrate its operational capabilities and the tangible value it delivers to users," Nguyen said.
The $500,000 pre-seed round is modest by regional standards, but it signals how corporate-backed venture builders are becoming an alternative path to startup formation in Vietnam. Bonbon's next test is execution: turning a garage network and a fresh technology platform into a business that can raise on stronger terms.
