Meta confirmed to TechCrunch that it acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that deploys multiple coding agents in parallel workspaces. Founder and CEO Charlie Holtz said the company’s cloud service will shut down on November 20.
Conductor announced the acquisition on its blog on Wednesday, after Axios reported the deal. Holtz wrote in the announcement: “I have big news: Conductor is joining Meta,”
Meta declined to disclose financial terms or provide additional details. The deal therefore comes without a disclosed purchase price, integration plan or operating structure.
A coordination product, not a model developer
Conductor was founded in 2024 and launched its core product last summer. The platform lets users spin up software projects by deploying multiple agents into parallel workspaces.
Its agentic teams divide engineering work among separate, compartmentalized parts of a project and coordinate those parts in concert. Teams can deploy in the cloud, locally, or through a user’s phone.
Conductor does not develop the agents it deploys. The platform draws on agents from major labs including Anthropic and OpenAI.
For practitioners, Conductor provides a coordination layer for third-party coding agents rather than serving as a model developer. The acquisition adds a multi-agent project workflow to Meta’s portfolio, though Meta has not disclosed how Conductor will fit with its own coding agents.
What does the acquisition change for Conductor users?
Holtz said Conductor’s core features will continue working as they have until early next year. The cloud service is the exception: it shuts on November 20, after which Conductor will begin deleting user cloud data.
Under Holtz’s timeline, the practical deadline for cloud customers is November 20. Local and phone deployment remain part of the core features that Holtz said will keep working through the transition.
Conductor’s announcement promises a new interface. Holtz wrote, “We have some big, crazy plans for the next interface,” then teased “something new” for customers by “early next year.”
For engineers, that preserves continuity of the core workflow in the near term. It does not make the cloud service durable storage, because user cloud data will be deleted after the shutdown.
Meta adds a multi-agent coding layer
Meta has spent the last several months trying to catch up in AI services after previously lagging. In August, the company launched Muse Code, its own coding agent.
Meta also recently launched Muse agents. The company reported that the service had surpassed 10 million users.
Meta has not said whether Conductor will be folded into Muse agents or remain a separate product. That leaves developers without clarity on how the two product lines will coexist.
On X, Holtz said he looked forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at the company’s Superintelligence Labs.
“They’ve been on an absolute tear, and I’m convinced MSL has the highest talent density of all the labs,” Holtz said.
His endorsement puts Meta’s AI leadership at the center of Conductor’s message. It does not amount to a product roadmap or a disclosed integration structure.
Meta has also made a number of AI-related acquisitions over the past year. One was Moltbook, the viral agent platform that made headlines.
What comes next
The transaction adds a multi-agent coding workflow to a company trying to catch up in AI services. Holtz and Conductor’s users are now waiting on a promised interface, not a detailed operating plan.
For software teams, the immediate deadline is the November 20 cloud shutdown and ensuing data deletion. The next product test is whether Conductor delivers its promised new interface by early next year under Meta.
