North Vector Dynamics raised more than $20 million, equivalent to approximately C$29 million, in a Series A financing that values the Calgary, Alberta-based defence technology company at more than $90 million.

Tech Horizons led the Series A. The European venture capital firm focuses on defence, security, and resilience technologies. It also participated in North Vector Dynamics’ seed round.

Additional investors included ONE9, Garage Capital, CSG, Ripple Ventures, Feld Ventures, Conconi Growth Partners, and others.

What will the new capital fund?

North Vector Dynamics listed five operating priorities for the proceeds:

  • Expand manufacturing and assembly capacity.
  • Increase vertical integration.
  • Strengthen the supply chain.
  • Establish new offices in the U.S. and Europe.
  • Recruit additional employees.

The spending plan links capital to manufacturing output, supply continuity, workforce growth and the industrial reach required to move from validation into allied deployment at scale. The company did not disclose plant targets, hiring numbers or a production timetable.

North Vector Dynamics said the financing will move the technology from validation toward higher-volume production and deployment across allied markets. The raise is meant to fund repeatable output after technical validation.

How does CM-70 address the drone threat?

North Vector Dynamics is developing air and missile defence technologies. Its initial commercial focus is CM-70, a low-cost precision-guided interceptor designed to counter unmanned aerial systems.

The company said CM-70 targets high-speed and highly maneuverable drones and other aerial threats that have become increasingly prominent in conflicts involving Ukraine and the Gulf.

North Vector Dynamics says CM-70 is ITAR-free. The interceptor uses an open architecture designed to integrate with existing layered air defence systems. It is closer to a new component in an existing defence stack than a replacement for the whole system.

Co-founder and CEO Dr. Paul Ziadé put affordability and producibility at the center of the customer case:

“Allied forces need affordable, producible air defence at scale, and they need it now. This round gives us the capital and the industrial reach to move from validation toward production volume and into Allied markets.”

Who built North Vector Dynamics?

CEO Dr. Paul Ziadé, Chief Science Officer Dr. Craig Johansen, and Dr. Colin Hill founded North Vector Dynamics in 2022.

Ziadé and Johansen are former engineering professors at the University of Calgary. Hill brings expertise in rocket propulsion and aerodynamics.

General Tom Lawson, the former senior military commander of the Canadian Armed Forces, serves as a Strategic Advisor.

Why did Tech Horizons lead the round?

Tech Horizons Partner Matej Luhový said:

“When we invested in North Vector Dynamics this spring as its first European investor, we were convinced above all by the exceptional calibre of its founding team and its technological vision.

The company’s founders have successfully translated world-class research into a solution addressing one of the defining challenges of today’s battlefields: how to protect soldiers and critical infrastructure from large-scale drone and loitering munition attacks in a cost-effective manner.

The successful completion of the Series A round validates our original investment thesis and reinforces our belief that technologies like these will play a decisive role in strengthening the defence capabilities of democratic nations.”

His investment case rests on the founding team and the conversion of research into cost-effective protection against drone and loitering-munition attacks.

What support has CM-70 received?

The development of CM-70 aligns with Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy, North Vector Dynamics said. Defence Research and Development Canada, an agency of Canada’s Department of National Defence, has provided early funding and ongoing testing support for the interceptor programme.

Public backing and private capital now sit behind the same commercial programme. The announcement did not specify the amount of public funding.

That leaves higher-volume production and allied deployment as the next milestones.

What comes after CM-70?

North Vector Dynamics is building a broader portfolio spanning precision interception, autonomous systems, advanced propulsion and hypersonic capabilities. The company intends those technologies for NATO members and allied countries.

CM-70 remains the stated initial commercial focus. North Vector Dynamics’ announcement provides no separate timelines, production targets or revenue mix for the wider portfolio.

The financing shifts the burden to execution: turning an open, ITAR-free interceptor design into repeatable output across new offices and a strengthened supply chain. Until production volumes and deployment dates become public, the more than $90 million valuation still reflects investor expectations rather than demonstrated operating scale.
