Novo Nordisk's experimental CagriSema injection produced 25% weight loss in women in a late-stage analysis, the company said in newly released evidence. That figure sits at the center of Novo's attempt to improve on the results of Wegovy, its blockbuster GLP-1 obesity injection.

The late-stage analysis is the first detailed readout to show how CagriSema performs in a female patient population. Women make up the majority of patients treated with incretin-based obesity therapies, which makes the 25% figure a direct commercial benchmark against Wegovy's established results.

What does the new data show?

Novo released new evidence that CagriSema can improve upon the weight loss achieved with Wegovy, according to the company's announcement. The headline number: 25% weight loss in women.

CagriSema is still experimental. It has not reached market, and Novo has framed the data as part of its late-stage development program rather than a finished regulatory package. The company did not present comparable figures for men in the newly released analysis.

The stakes are straightforward. Wegovy turned Novo into one of the world's most valuable pharmaceutical companies and ignited a global obesity-drug market. Any successor that delivers meaningfully greater weight loss gives Novo a defense of that franchise as competitors close in.

Why does the women-only figure matter?

Obesity trials typically enroll more women than men, and treatment response can differ by sex. A 25% average weight loss in women, if confirmed across the full trial population, would represent a step change from currently approved injectables.

Novo's own framing is comparative. The company said the new evidence shows CagriSema can improve upon Wegovy's weight loss — a claim that will face scrutiny when full results are peer-reviewed and reviewed by regulators.

What comes next for CagriSema?

The drug remains in late-stage development. Novo will need to convert the women's analysis into full trial results, safety data and regulatory filings before CagriSema can reach patients. The 25% figure now sets the bar every future readout will be measured against.

For Novo, the calculation is defensive as much as offensive. Wegovy faces mounting competition, and a stronger successor extends the company's lead in a market it largely created. The next data releases will show whether the women's result holds across the broader population.
