What's News

  • Numeral raised a $100 million Series C, Axios reports.
  • Perpetual rejected a takeover approach from EQT.
  • GTCR is exploring a sale of Allspring Global Investments.
  • Axios did not disclose Numeral's valuation or the value of EQT's bid.

Tax-automation startup Numeral has closed a $100 million Series C, Axios reports, in a week that also saw Perpetual reject a takeover approach from EQT and GTCR move to sell Allspring Global Investments.

The three moves, bundled in Axios's deals roundup, span fintech infrastructure, Australian asset management and U.S. wealth management. Details on each deal's terms remain thin, but the headline figures signal where capital is moving.

What do we know about Numeral's $100M round?

Numeral's Series C lands at $100 million, according to Axios. The company builds software that automates sales-tax compliance for businesses — a category that has drawn steady venture interest as U.S. tax rules grow more complex for online sellers.

A Series C of this size typically signals a company scaling revenue rather than proving product-market fit. Axios did not disclose the round's valuation or lead investor.

Why did Perpetual reject EQT?

Perpetual, the Sydney-listed asset manager, turned down an approach from Swedish private-equity firm EQT, Axios reports. The rejection puts EQT's ambitions in Australian wealth management on hold for now.

EQT has been active across financial services globally, and Perpetual — which has itself reshaped its portfolio in recent years — was a natural target. The board's refusal suggests it sees more value in staying independent than in the price EQT put on the table, though Axios did not report the bid's value.

Is GTCR really selling Allspring?

Yes, according to Axios: GTCR is exploring a sale of Allspring Global Investments, the U.S. asset manager it controls. Allspring manages hundreds of billions in client assets, making it one of the larger prizes on the market if a process formally launches.

A sale would end GTCR's hold on a business it acquired through Wells Fargo's asset-management divestiture. Axios gave no timetable or indicative price.

What ties the three deals together?

All three stories show financial-services assets attracting serious money from different directions — venture capital into tax software, private equity into asset management, and sponsors cashing out at scale.

Expect more detail on Numeral's valuation and the Allspring process to surface as talks progress.
