Crypto Briefing reported that OpenAI was nearing completion of a private funding round with about $11 billion in commitments as of October 31, 2026, at an approximately $1.25 trillion valuation. Those commitments covered 37% of the original $30 billion goal and 55% of the revised target of roughly $20 billion.
The report said OpenAI had floated a $1.4 trillion valuation with investors earlier in October 2026. The proposed valuation was $150 billion, or 10.7%, below that pitch. Crypto Briefing described the financing as “bridge financing” ahead of an initial public offering expected in 2027.
How much has the round fallen short?
OpenAI’s business kept growing while its financing terms contracted. The company’s reported annualized revenue run rate reached about $50 billion by late September 2026. At $1.25 trillion, the proposed valuation equals 25 times that run rate, a simple but revealing measure of how much future growth investors must still underwrite.
OpenAI entered the period from a much lower base. Crypto Briefing said the company was valued at $500 billion in October 2025. A March 2026 round then raised $122 billion at an $852 billion post-money valuation. Even the reduced $1.25 trillion figure would equal 2.5 times the October 2025 valuation.
What changed in the deal?
- Fundraising size: The target fell from $30 billion to about $20 billion, a $10 billion reduction.
- Commitments: OpenAI had lined up about $11 billion by October 31, leaving roughly $9 billion to reach the revised goal.
- Valuation: The company moved from a $1.4 trillion target floated in October to an approximately $1.25 trillion round valuation.
- Round framing: Crypto Briefing framed the round as bridge financing ahead of an expected 2027 IPO.
The March comparison sharpens the scale of the pullback. The current round had attracted commitments equal to about 9% of the $122 billion secured in March, before completion. Crypto Briefing said the downgrade from $30 billion to around $20 billion suggested investor appetite had cooled along the way.
Why are investors more cautious?
AI-linked technology stocks came under pressure, according to Crypto Briefing. The Nasdaq 100 fell 3.5% on one Friday as worries about AI spending spread. The stock move does not prove why buyers changed, but it provides the market backdrop for a smaller round.
Anthropic adds another timing factor. The rival was preparing for a public listing in November 2026, ahead of OpenAI’s expected 2027 timeline. Crypto Briefing’s conclusion was that OpenAI’s “pricing power with investors has limits” as it adjusts both the size of its raise and the valuation attached to it.
What does the 2027 IPO timetable mean?
The sequencing puts Anthropic’s public-market debut before OpenAI’s planned listing. How Anthropic trades after November could give investors a fresh reference point for AI-related businesses. OpenAI would enter public markets after that benchmark rather than set the first public price.
Together, the $1.25 trillion valuation and $50 billion annualized revenue run rate still leave OpenAI among the most valuable private companies in history, according to Crypto Briefing. The issue is not the headline valuation; it is whether investors will fund the remaining round and sustain that valuation while AI equities remain unsettled.
What should investors watch next?
Crypto Briefing identified three markers: whether OpenAI reaches its roughly $20 billion goal, how Anthropic trades after its November debut, and whether AI-linked stocks steady or slide further.
OpenAI still has about $9 billion to secure under the revised target, based on the reported $11 billion in commitments. The next test is whether it can close that gap without reducing the $1.25 trillion valuation further.
Reaching the revised target would restore the round to two-thirds of its original $30 billion size, though at a valuation below the $1.4 trillion pitch. A smaller closing would leave a funding gap before the planned IPO.
