Byzfunder has promoted Filippo Guidi, who joined the small-business lender in October 2026, to Chief Strategy Officer, tasking him with capital markets, strategic planning, and ventures and partnerships as the company pushes deeper into institutional funding. The appointment follows Byzfunder's inaugural $170 million KBRA-rated asset-backed securitization completed in 2026 — roughly 8.5% of the more than $2 billion the company says it has funded since its 2019 founding. That figure works out to over 35,000 businesses served, an average ticket of about $57,000 per funded company.
The company has not disclosed specific targets for additional securitizations, warehouse financing commitments or future institutional fundraising — a gap worth noting in a hire premised on capital expansion.
What does the new role cover?
Guidi's remit spans the company's entire capital structure:
- Securitization transactions
- Warehouse financing arrangements
- Forward-flow relationships
- Strategic ventures and partnerships
- Corporate planning and financial planning and analysis
He will lead initiatives to diversify capital sources, strengthen institutional investor relationships and develop partnerships supporting growth in the U.S. small-business financing market. In plain terms, one man now owns both how Byzfunder raises money and how it plans to spend it on growth.
Why Guidi, and what does his record show?
Before joining Byzfunder, Guidi served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer of TimePayment, a small-ticket equipment leasing provider. There he led the company's sale from Fortress Investment Group to BasePoint Capital — a deal that gave him direct experience with the capital requirements and organizational demands of a lending business.
Earlier roles included investment banking at J.P. Morgan and Evercore Partners, plus investment positions at Silver Point Capital and Madison Dearborn Partners. He holds an honors bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Chicago. His background covers both sides of financing: raising and managing capital inside an operating business, and evaluating investments from the institutional side.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer Ilya Fridman framed the hire around the company's next funding phase. "Our next phase of growth is about expanding our reach in small-business lending and securing the capital to support it," Fridman said. He credited Guidi's experience with institutional investors and lending-company financial operations as the basis for building a capital structure capable of sustaining expansion. What Fridman did not specify is how much new capital the structure must support.
What is Guidi promising?
Guidi's own statement was pointed. "Byzfunder has the two things that are hard to build and easy to claim: real origination volume and real underwriting data," he said. He pointed to the $2 billion funded across more than 35,000 businesses as the foundation for institutional investor discussions.
His stated priority: converting that operating history into sustainable funding relationships and partnerships that expand financing access for small businesses underserved by traditional banks. The 2026 securitization gives him one completed capital markets transaction to build on. Turning a single deal into a repeatable program, however, is the untested part of that promise.
How does Byzfunder lend?
Founded in 2019, Byzfunder provides working capital financing to small and medium-sized U.S. businesses. It lends directly from its own balance sheet, with underwriting informed by business performance rather than relying exclusively on traditional credit scores. Businesses apply online and may receive funding the same business day. The model targets companies that may not qualify for conventional bank financing.
For alternative lenders, institutional funding determines lending capacity. Securitization finances portfolios of originated assets through capital markets; warehouse facilities and forward-flow agreements fund originations. Diversifying across these channels reduces dependence on any single capital provider — the precise problem Guidi has been hired to manage.
The bet for Byzfunder is that origination volume and underwriting data, plus one rated securitization, will persuade institutional investors to fund the next stage of a balance-sheet lender that has so far disclosed no targets for what that stage should raise.
