What's News

  • Eight Sleep launched the Pod 6 in over 37 countries, priced from $1,999 (solo) to $2,699 (standard).
  • The Pod 6 has a 50% smaller footprint, adjusts temperature 20% faster, and carries 9x more sensors than the previous generation.
  • Eight Sleep raised $50 million from Tether at a $1.5 billion valuation earlier this year and is pursuing FDA approval for its Pod as a sleep apnea medical device.

Eight Sleep launched its Pod 6 sleep device on Wednesday at a starting price of $1,999, with a footprint 50% smaller than earlier editions so it fits most bed frames. The launch covers more than 37 countries.

The company said the new device adjusts temperature on either side of the bed 20% faster than the previous generation. Eight Sleep claims the Pod 6 carries 9x more sensors than its predecessor, allowing granular temperature control for each user even when two people sleep close together. The sensor array can also ignore data from a pet or a child sharing the bed with two sleepers.

Pricing runs from $1,999 for solo sizes to $2,699 for standard sizes. Solo sizes fit a twin bed and one side of queen, king, and California King beds. Standard sizes come in queen, king, and California King. The Pod 6 works with existing add-ons, including a blanket, pillow cover, and base.

The hardware launch sits alongside a bigger strategic move. Eight Sleep is pursuing Food and Drug Administration approval to transition its Pod into a regulated medical device for sleep apnea in the U.S. That would shift the product from a premium consumer gadget into the health-care market.

The company has the balance sheet to fund that push. Earlier this year, Eight Sleep raised $50 million from Tether at a $1.5 billion valuation. It has also expanded internationally over the past year, launching in China, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Singapore. China has become one of its fastest-growing regions.

CEO Matteo Franceschetti told TechCrunch that international markets now contribute more than 30% of revenue. He said the company plans to expand into other regions of Asia and Latin America.

Franceschetti flagged one risk: the component crunch in the electronics sector. He did not say whether it would affect pricing, but he described active measures to manage the squeeze.

"We definitely see the market changing a little bit because AI companies are requesting a lot of different components. We are adjusting our supply chain [to counter that]. It's definitely something that we need to watch out for, particularly as our devices become more and more, I would say, compute-heavy and intelligent to be able to provide AI features to our users," Franceschetti said.

His comment points to the core tension in Eight Sleep's roadmap. As the company pushes more AI features into compute-heavy hardware while pursuing FDA-regulated medical status, component costs and supply chain discipline will shape both its margins and its timeline in the sleep apnea market.
