Elon Musk has raised $3 billion for The Boring Company, his tunneling startup, Investor's Business Daily reports.

The raise marks one of the largest private funding rounds secured by a Musk-affiliated company outside of Tesla and SpaceX. It signals continued investor appetite for the billionaire's portfolio of ventures despite tightening conditions in late-stage private markets.

The Boring Company builds underground transportation tunnels and has pursued projects aimed at reducing urban traffic congestion through low-cost boring technology. The company has worked on systems including the Las Vegas Convention Center loop, an underground transit system that moves passengers through tunnels in modified Tesla vehicles.

Musk founded the startup in 2016 after complaining about traffic in Los Angeles. Since then, the company has pitched cities on building networks of tunnels that could carry autonomous electric vehicles at high speeds beneath congested streets.

The $3 billion infusion provides fresh capital as the company competes for municipal contracts and expands its footprint in Las Vegas, where it has proposed extending its tunnel network across the resort corridor.

Details on the valuation attached to the round and the identities of participating investors were not disclosed in the Investor's Business Daily report.

The raise adds to a busy stretch for Musk's ventures. Investors have continued to back his companies across electric vehicles, spaceflight, artificial intelligence and now infrastructure, betting on his track record of scaling capital-intensive businesses.

For The Boring Company, the new funding sets up a critical phase: converting Musk's vision of cheap, fast tunneling into municipal contracts and revenue at a scale that justifies the multibillion-dollar bet.
