What did InTandem Capital Partners buy?

InTandem Capital Partners has made a strategic growth investment in Atlas Health, an AI-powered patient affordability platform founded in 2017. Atlas Health helps healthcare providers identify and enroll patients in financial assistance programs.

Atlas Health's existing management team will continue to lead the company. Those managers will also remain significant shareholders alongside InTandem after the investment. The structure keeps the existing operating team in place, preserves its significant ownership position and gives InTandem a substantial financial stake in the company.

How does Atlas Health's platform work?

Atlas Health partners with hospitals and health systems to improve patient access to healthcare affordability programs while supporting reimbursement and reducing uncompensated care.

The platform combines three elements: a large funding network, workflow automation software and human advocates, together covering funding access, enrollment workflows and direct human assistance.

Ava, Atlas Health's proprietary agentic AI system, automates elements of coverage enrollment, medication access, financial assistance and other affordability workflows.

Atlas says the platform currently helps millions of patients facing expensive treatments identify potential financial assistance. That puts software-enabled enrollment within a service already reaching patients at scale.

Ethan Davidoff, founder and CEO of Atlas Health, said: “Patient affordability is becoming a category every health system runs on dedicated infrastructure. We built that infrastructure.”

Davidoff described affordability as a dedicated operating function. His statement treats patient aid as standing infrastructure for health systems.

How will the investment change Atlas Health?

The new investment will support product development and additional investments in services for healthcare providers and patients, reinforcing both Atlas Health's software and the human support around it.

Atlas Health is seeking to make financial clearance and affordability support more automated across four operating areas:

  • Health systems
  • Specialty pharmacies
  • Revenue-cycle functions
  • Pharmacy operations

The stated ambition extends past enrollment. Atlas Health wants its software and human support to work across more of the financial process, including medication access and reimbursement support.

Why did InTandem Capital Partners invest?

InTandem said rising healthcare costs, changes in coverage and increasing specialty drug expenses make patient affordability a more important operational issue for healthcare providers. Its investment thesis treats patient assistance as a revenue and operating concern for health systems.

Brad Coppens, president and managing partner at InTandem Capital Partners, said: “Helping patients navigate the financial burden of care is transitioning from a back-office afterthought to a critical front-line revenue recovery tool, and we believe Atlas has built the most capable platform in the category.”

Coppens placed affordability where patient access and provider economics meet. His description treats the platform as part of revenue recovery.

InTandem describes itself as a healthcare-focused private equity firm that invests in services businesses and provides strategic acquisition and operating support to portfolio companies.

InTandem said Atlas Health fits its strategy of backing businesses that can improve:

  • Patient experience
  • Clinical outcomes
  • Healthcare equity
  • Provider performance
  • The cost of delivering care

The strategy links clinical and operational outcomes with the cost of delivering care. Atlas Health offers the mechanism through software, funding access and human advocacy.

Who advised the transaction?

J.P. Morgan served as exclusive financial advisor to Atlas Health, Cooley provided legal counsel to Atlas Health, and Greenberg Traurig served as legal counsel to InTandem.

What should investors watch?

Atlas Health now faces a product-and-service expansion. The next test is whether Atlas Health can extend deeper into financial clearance across health systems, specialty pharmacies, revenue-cycle functions and pharmacy operations as its product roadmap develops.

For providers, the payoff remains practical: help patients identify potential financial assistance, support reimbursement and reduce uncompensated care. For InTandem, the bet is that affordability software can combine patient access with better operating performance, two outcomes embedded in the firm's investment thesis.
