What's News

  • More than one million businesses are already using AI agents on WhatsApp and Messenger
  • Brazil's Movida saw a 44% increase in daily bookings within one month of deploying Meta Business Agent on WhatsApp
  • 85% of Movida's customer conversations were resolved entirely by the AI agent
  • The UK is the third-largest AI market globally, per the government's AI Opportunities Action Plan
  • A Meta VP predicts the emergence of single-person billion-dollar companies powered by agentic AI tools

More than one million businesses are already using AI agents on WhatsApp and Messenger — and a Meta executive says that scale of adoption will eventually produce single-person companies worth a billion dollars.

The claim comes from a Meta regional VP writing in a Fortune commentary piece. "I genuinely believe we will see single-person billion-dollar companies, thanks to these tools," the executive wrote. "They give every founder the same reach and capability that only the largest companies had before."

The argument rests on a simple premise: agentic AI has crossed from experimental to everyday, but most businesses are using it to optimise old processes rather than rebuild how they operate.

What does the data show?

The numbers behind the hype are mixed. The UK is the third-largest AI market globally, backed by government investment pushing companies to scale, according to the UK government's AI Opportunities Action Plan. Yet PwC's CEO Survey data, cited by the Meta VP, tells a different story: too many businesses deploy transformative technology to do the same things they have always done, just slightly faster.

The executive called that pattern "an expensive treadmill dressed up as innovation."

Where is agentic AI already delivering results?

Movida, one of Brazil's largest car rental companies, offers the most concrete case study. Using Meta Business Agent, Movida moved its entire booking journey — vehicle selection, pricing, payment — into a single WhatsApp conversation.

The results, over one month:

  • A 44% increase in daily bookings
  • 85% of conversations resolved entirely by the AI agent, with no human involvement

For customers, the experience feels like chatting with a helpful store associate who is available at any hour, knows their preferences and answers in seconds, according to the Meta VP's account.

How does AI change the C-suite?

The commentary identifies a structural tension inside companies adopting AI. CFOs want incrementality — they ask teams to do more with less and point at AI as the tool. CEOs see a bigger strategic bet. CMOs sit in the middle, trying to prove long-term brand value while delivering short-term efficiency gains.

"The three roles are looking at the same technology and seeing fundamentally different things," the Meta VP wrote.

Meanwhile, AI-native competitors are emerging overnight, building from a blank slate and disrupting entire categories before established players finish their pilot programmes.

What makes agentic AI different?

The Meta executive identifies three capabilities that separate agentic AI from earlier tools:

  • Proactivity — it acts without waiting for prompts
  • Autonomous action — it executes multi-step strategies on its own
  • Multi-modal intelligence — it reasons and plans across inputs

"It stops being a search engine and becomes a colleague," the VP wrote.

The boundary, in this framing, sits between automation and creativity. AI can automate the creative process — the iterative, data-heavy work of personalisation at scale — but it cannot automate creativity itself. Humans keep what builds brands: genuine creative instinct and emotional storytelling.

Aesha Karunakaran, CEO of Protein Milkshake, described the effect after adopting Meta's AI business assistant: "… it gives me back time to focus on creativity and my customers, unlocking growth at a level that simply wouldn't be possible without it."

Why measurement becomes the new discipline?

As AI agents take on more responsibility, measuring and optimising their output becomes as important as managing a human team, the commentary argues. Businesses that build that discipline now will hold a significant head start.

The stakes, in the Meta VP's telling, are not incremental. A startup in Manchester can now access the same strategic intelligence, responsiveness and personalisation at scale as any global enterprise. Businesses that treat agentic AI as a back-office efficiency tool will find, quietly and gradually, that they have handed the future to competitors who demanded more from it — a shift the executive says is already playing out.
