What does the first close establish?

Ondine Capital announced on November 3, 2026, that Ondine Capital Fund III had reached its first close with commitments from top-tier institutional and strategic limited partners. Ondine Capital said Fund III is its third U.S.-dollar-denominated venture fund and will invest in artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology companies across Asia. Several leading semiconductor enterprises in Taiwan are among the limited partners, according to the firm. The announcement disclosed neither the first-close amount nor the fund's target or final capacity. Coinciding with the close, Ondine Capital appointed Brian Yen as Partner to reinforce the firm's global sourcing and founder network.

"The convergence of AI and semiconductors is unleashing unprecedented opportunities across global tech," said Brian Yen. "As these technologies mature, we anticipate monumental value creation throughout the entire stack. Through Fund III, we look forward to empowering visionary founders who are shaping the future of computing and industry applications."

Which companies anchor the early portfolio?

Ondine Capital named three early portfolio highlights:

  • Recursive Superintelligence. Ondine Capital said former Salesforce Chief Scientist Richard Socher founded the startup, and veteran researchers from OpenAI, Google and Meta built it. It focuses on recursive self-improving AI systems. The startup recently raised $650 million at a $4 billion pre-money valuation in a financing led by Google Ventures, with Nvidia and AMD participating.
  • Bot Auto. Xiaodi Hou, a former co-founder and CTO of TuSimple, founded the Houston-based physical AI startup, according to Ondine Capital. The company specializes in autonomous freight transportation. It recently partnered with Ryan Transportation to launch driverless freight operations along the Houston-Dallas corridor.
  • Salience Labs. Vaysh Kewada and Johannes Feldmann founded the company, which develops silicon-photonics optical switching technology for AI data centers, according to Ondine Capital. It partnered with Tower Semiconductor and recently closed a $125 million financing round led by Bullhound Capital, with strategic backing from AMD Ventures and Intel Capital.

The three disclosed early portfolio highlights give the first close a measurable technology profile spanning $650 million and $125 million financings, a $4 billion valuation and a freight launch. Recursive Superintelligence carries the highest stated valuation of the group. Salience Labs supplies the disclosed round size. Bot Auto supplies an operating milestone on a named corridor. The announcement disclosed no Fund III investment amount for any of the three.

How does Brian Yen extend Ondine Capital's reach?

Ondine Capital said Yen previously served as Principal and Head of the Taipei Office at Headline Asia, where he cultivated an extensive network across Japan, Taiwan and Southeast Asia. His investment track record spans consumer technologies, agentic services and physical AI, with notable investments in respond.io, forest inc., Braid and iMotorbike, according to the firm. At Ondine Capital, Yen will focus on backing early-stage founders building intelligent software and physical AI platforms, the company said. The mechanism is direct: Yen's regional contacts expand the sourcing pool, while Fund III supplies the capital. The announcement disclosed no allocation target for Yen's focus areas or deployment schedule.

What does Fund III target?

Ondine Capital said it continues to actively deploy capital and evaluate global investment opportunities in what it calls "breakthrough, category-defining companies" across AI and semiconductors. Fund III's stated focus links two markets: AI software and semiconductor technology. The early roster tests that breadth across model intelligence, industrial autonomy and data-center hardware. Recursive Superintelligence sits at the research layer. Bot Auto applies autonomy to freight. Salience Labs supplies the optical hardware layer for AI data centers. That structure links research, industrial use and infrastructure rather than concentrating the early portfolio on one business model. The announcement disclosed no deployment schedule or allocation figures.

Fund III's next phase will be judged by execution. The relevant measures are Recursive Superintelligence's progress with self-improving AI, Bot Auto's expansion beyond the Houston-Dallas launch and Salience Labs' adoption of optical switching. Ondine Capital said it remains active in deploying capital and evaluating global opportunities. For limited partners, the first close has delivered a regional sponsor base and three early portfolio highlights, but Fund III's scale and pace remain the open variables.
