What's News

  • The Boring Company raised $3 billion at a $23 billion valuation, per Reuters.
  • The startup was founded by Elon Musk in 2016 to lower tunneling costs.
  • The round ranks among the largest private fundraisings by an infrastructure-technology firm this year.

Elon Musk's tunnel startup The Boring Company has raised $3 billion at a $23 billion valuation, Reuters reports.

The round, confirmed by Reuters on Monday, marks one of the largest private fundraisings this year by an infrastructure-technology firm. It values the company at $23 billion, according to the report.

The Boring Company was founded by Musk in 2016 to cut the cost of tunneling and build underground urban transit networks. Its flagship operational project is the Vegas Loop, a system of tunnels beneath Las Vegas that transports passengers in Tesla vehicles. The company has also proposed loop systems for other cities.

The $3 billion raise adds to the substantial capital Musk's ventures have attracted in recent funding cycles. Reuters did not name the investors in the round in its initial report.

At a $23 billion valuation, The Boring Company ranks among the most valuable privately held startups in the United States. The figure places it in the same tier as other Musk-affiliated private companies, including SpaceX and xAI, which have each raised multibillion-dollar rounds at premium valuations.

The new capital gives the company fuel to expand tunneling operations and pursue new project contracts. Its business model rests on driving down the cost per mile of tunnel construction through faster boring machines, continuous operations, and smaller tunnel diameters than conventional transit projects use.

Investor appetite for Musk-linked ventures has stayed strong despite broader turbulence in private markets. Each of his companies — Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, Neuralink and The Boring Company — has raised capital at multi-billion-dollar valuations in recent cycles.

Reuters' report did not disclose how the company plans to deploy the $3 billion, nor did it specify the structure of the round. The company has not issued a public statement beyond the figures reported.

The raise signals continued confidence in infrastructure-adjacent technology startups at a time when venture funding has grown more selective. Whether The Boring Company can convert its valuation into contracted revenue from cities beyond Las Vegas will determine the durability of that confidence.
