U.S. Chamber Endorses Rep. Mike Lawler in New York's 17th District

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed Rep. Mike Lawler for reelection in New York's Seventeenth District, announcing the decision during a stop in Putnam Valley on the Chamber's national Opportunity Tour.

The endorsement places the country's largest business lobbying organization behind an incumbent in one of the most closely watched congressional districts in the Northeast. The Chamber endorses candidates for federal office who it says will support policies that drive innovation, grow the economy, and create opportunities for American businesses and workers.

Neil Bradley, Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, delivered the announcement in person and framed it in explicitly pro-business terms.

The Putnam Valley event was a stop on the Chamber's Opportunity Tour, a six-week national bus tour promoting free enterprise. The tour's vehicle, the Free Enterprise Express, will visit businesses across key states over six weeks — companies the Chamber says provide the ideas, products and services that make communities stronger, more vibrant, and "uniquely their own."

The Chamber says the bus will drive the debate about what it takes for people, businesses, and communities to thrive. State and local chamber members are partners in planning the tour's route and events, extending the organization's reach well beyond its Washington headquarters.

The Opportunity Tour forms part of a broader institutional effort. It operates under the Chamber's New Fight for Free Enterprise initiative, a multi-year strategic campaign to defend, protect, and promote free enterprise across the country. The bus tour serves as the initiative's most visible public-facing component, taking the message directly to local communities and the businesses that anchor them.

What the Endorsement Signals

For Lawler, the backing of the U.S. Chamber brings the support of an organization that describes itself as the world's largest business organization, representing companies of all sizes across every sector of the economy. Its membership spans small businesses and local chambers of commerce on America's Main Streets as well as leading industry associations and large corporations.

The organization has operated for more than 114 years, advocating for pro-business policies it says help businesses create jobs and grow the economy. An endorsement from that apparatus carries weight with donors and business communities in competitive districts.

Bradley's statement signals the Chamber intends to remain engaged with Lawler beyond election day.
