U.S. Chamber Hails Silverberg's Rise to Lead Business Roundtable

Kristen Silverberg will take over as president and CEO of the Business Roundtable, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has moved quickly to endorse the transition.

Suzanne P. Clark, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, issued a statement from Washington, D.C., congratulating both outgoing chief Josh Bolten and his successor. Bolten has led the Business Roundtable as president and CEO; Silverberg now steps in to lead the organization.

"I congratulate Josh Bolten on his tenure as President and CEO of Business Roundtable and Kristen Silverberg on her appointment to lead the organization," Clark said. "We are grateful for our partnership with Josh and the Business Roundtable team over the years and look forward to continuing that work with Kristen."

Clark framed the leadership change as well-timed. "This successful transition comes at an important time for the economy and American business, and we wish them both well," she said.

The statement signals continuity between two of the most influential business lobbying forces in Washington. The Business Roundtable, an association of chief executives from leading U.S. companies, regularly engages with policymakers on tax, trade, and regulatory issues. The U.S. Chamber describes itself as the world's largest business organization, representing companies of all sizes across every sector of the economy.

The Chamber's membership spans small businesses and local chambers of commerce, as well as leading industry associations and large corporations. The organization marks more than 114 years of advocacy on behalf of American business.

For corporate America, the handoff at the top of the Business Roundtable matters because the group's agenda — set by its CEO members — carries weight in debates over fiscal policy and regulation. Silverberg now inherits that platform, with the Chamber's leadership publicly committed to continuing the partnership.
